Search, find and locate that elusive parking space

Filed under: Story,Website News — Anthony Eskinazi @ 11:53 pm
Magnifying Glass

Today we launced a new version of our internal search engine. Not the most exciting bit of news you are likely to hear today but for anyone looking to park or renting out their parking space, you are now much more likely to find a `parking partner`.

Our search algorithm takes a number of factors in to account and although we can’t give away the ingredients to our `magic sauce`, a few of the variables we take in to consideration include distance, proximity to local amenities, pricing, reliability rating and also the number of successful bookings you have already had. We plug these and many other important elements in to our big parking machine and `spit out` parking spaces that we think are relevant to your search query.

We are always interested to hear your thoughts about improvements to the way the site works so please send us an e-mail by clicking on `contact us` at the bottom of this page.

Happy searching!

Site Design Update

Filed under: Story — Anthony Eskinazi @ 12:10 am

Morning all.

It’s 1:05am here in London and I realised it has been a while since I’ve updated you on our progress. Today  we launched what must be about the 6th or 7th major iteration of the ParkatmyHouse.com design and user interface. All very exciting and tiring but we hope it will make a difference to your enjoyment using the website.

As always, a big thank you to the thousands… yes thousands of you that submitted feedback comments and told us how we could make your user experience more enjoyable.

We still want your feedback and to make things really easy for you, we have added a little `Send us your feedback` widget in the top right hand corner of each page. If you have a moment, please click on it and submit your comments on the new design and any further suggestions you may have. It will only take you a minute.

There are too many changes to list them all here and some are quite subtle and only those that have navigated around the rest of the website will notice some of the improvements. One of the pages we are most proud of is our `Press Exposure` page which now shows off all the media (Newspapers, TV, Radio, etc.) that ParkatmyHouse.com has been featured in. This is one of many ways we are trying to let the public know about our service so we can rent out more of your parking spaces. Check out some of the videos that other website owners have produced about our service. We have also uploaded some of the radio interviews we have given over the past couple of years.

If you have found our service useful, we always appreciate your testimonials – if you want to add one please go ahead and tell the world how great we are!

To see how far we have come and to all of you who did not see the first version of ParkatmyHouse.com back in September 2006 when we launched – this is what you missed out on ;-)

Partnership with Parkopedia.com

Filed under: Story — Anthony Eskinazi @ 12:11 pm

Parkopedia

A new and exciting website was recently launched which, alongside ParkatmyHouse.com, will help solve the parking problems that many of us experience on a day to day basis. Finding that elusive parking meter and knowing how much it is going to cost is now possible before you get in to your car.

Parkopedia.com is a website that helps drivers find and compare commercial, street and private parking on their computer or on their  mobile phone.

Parkopedia also helps drivers by displaying parking information about their chosen area and displays useful tips that are submitted and shared by its users.

To help you to rent out your spaces faster, we have entered into a partnership with Parkopedia.com to display ParkatmyHouse.com parking spaces on their site. For those looking for somewhere to park, you can compare the private parking space prices with those of the commercial car parks and see how big a saving you will get.

Parkopedia.com is only as useful as the content avaialble on the site and therefore we would love you to contribute to by adding any missing parking locations or by sharing  tips and information on  parking in your area.

Game, Set and Match – Parking at Wimbledon

Filed under: Latest Parking News,Story — Anthony Eskinazi @ 5:06 pm

Parking at Wimbledon Finding parking anywhere close to The All England Club during The Championships is not possible and due to the unavailability of commercial car parks the driveway economy thrives during this fortnight.

I spent most of Monday in the SW19 area talking to home owners, handing out leaflets and talking to current ParkatmyHouse.com customers to find out a bit more about how long they have been renting out their drive, how much money they normally make and what problems they have experienced over the last few years.

Wimbledon Pic 2

Some home owners were parking 15 cars in their front driveway at £20 per car which over the two weeks should generate over £3,000. Not bad for a few hours work before you leave for the office in the morning.

I was also pleased to see that a number of homes were using the huge parking demand to raise money for their chosen charity (see picture on right).

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships was one of the first examples in the UK where the true value of an empty driveway became apparent. This is set to continue for many years to come and during my walk in the surrounding roads, I noticed that there are many of you that are not taking full advantage of your under utilised real estate.

We have many parking spaces available close to the tennis. Here are just a few:

10 Minutes From Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club, LONDON, SW19
Private, quiet site with evening lighting provided. On site security/caretaker in attendance.

5 Minutes From Southfields Tube Station, LONDON, SW19
2 spaces available for off street car parking in a quiet, safe, well lit area.

15 Mins From Wimbledon Tennis, London, SW19
Off street site with evening lighting provided. There is a 15 minute walk down hill to Wimbledon Tennis

To see more private parking spaces around Wimbledon – please visit our Wimbledon Parking page.

Find Parking on your iPhone

Filed under: Story — Anthony Eskinazi @ 5:09 pm

iPhone
We like technology! We like it a lot and therefore it is probably no surprise to you that some of our team have the `must have gadget of last year`, the iPhone.

An iPhone allows a much richer user experience on a handheld device and has truly allowed the web to go mobile. I won’t go in to the nitty gritty of why it is a great phone and how much time it has saved me looking for restaurants, finding directions, looking up the football scores etc.

Instead I am pleased to announce that you can now look for parking and read your ParkatmyHouse.com messages wherever you are in the world on that little device in your pocket.

Simply visit http://www.parkatmyhouse.com/iphone/ from your iPhone to see the site work in much the same way you are used to. Our iPhone version of the site is still in Beta, but it is a step in the right direction.

The next feature we will be adding is the ability to send and reply to new enquiries as we have had quite a few requests for it.

In the mean time, we will concentrate on improving the product further and continue trying to rent out all your parking spaces!

Thanks for reading.

Improved booking logic to avoid time-wasting

Filed under: Story — Anthony Eskinazi @ 4:32 pm

Calendar Parking spaces are strange beings. They are either available or unavailable, available from 9am but only until 6pm and some are only available on the 3rd Monday of every month. Designing an interface that supports all these variables is time consuming, brain draining and ultimately rather confusing.

Users of the website are already familiar with our parking space availability calendars which show a visual representation of the availability of a parking space at a given period of time and will be pleased to know that we have just updated our calendar so that it not only takes in to account successful bookings and the number of spaces you have still available, but also indicates the times at which a space will become available.

e.g. If George has a parking space which is booked from Monday 9am until Friday 5pm, using the old system, the parking space would be marked as unavailable from Mon until Fri. Now, instead of one of our `unavailable red cars`, a yellow `limited availability car` will be shown instead. Users will then be able to see that the space is only available after 5pm on the Friday.

Calendar

We have done a few more tweaks here and there and have also improved out reliability ratings algorithm to properly reward our trusted users :-) and to give a slap on the wrist to anyone that ignores enquiries sent by those needing somewhere to park. :-(

More updates to follow….
